FishtapeCalculations for electricians

Terms of use, in plain words

What Fishtape is, what it is not, what you pay for and what happens when you stop. Last updated 19 October 2026.

Who provides it

Fishtape, the app and this website, is provided by Pavel Aleshin, Rua da Camacha 10, Bloco B 1C, 2655-345 Ericeira, Portugal. Write to hello@fishtape.website about anything on this page.

What Fishtape is, and what it is not

Fishtape is a calculation aid for people who are qualified to design or install electrical work. It shows every step of every result so that you can check it, and it names every check it could not make.

It is not a design, an inspection or a certificate of compliance, and it does not replace the judgement of a competent person. The result depends on what you enter and on the rules you choose. You remain responsible for checking each result against the edition of the wiring rules in force where the work is done, and against the equipment actually installed.

Codes and code packs

Where a pack carries values, they are taken from a regulation that its government publishes for anyone to read, and the pack checks itself against the printed tables every time it loads. Where a regulation's tables are not free to reproduce, the pack carries none of them: it tells you which table to read, and you enter the figure from your own copy. The official text always prevails over the app. If you find a figure that does not match it, tell us and we will correct the pack.

What you pay for

  • Everything, every calculator, the sizing chain, the code packs, saved jobs and offline use, is free for 7 days, then €1.99 a month or €29.99 once. When the free days end the calculators stop until you pay, and every sheet you saved stays yours to open, print and share.
  • The code packs are part of it, not a separate purchase. For a code whose values a government publishes for anyone to read, the figure arrives by itself, with the clause on your sheet. For a copyrighted code, the app names the table and you type the figure from your own copy. Cancel the monthly and the figures go back to that, with nothing deleted.

Both are sold through the App Store or Google Play, which take the payment under their own terms. The price is shown in the store before you buy. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel it in your store account settings at least 24 hours before the period ends, and you can cancel at any time. Refunds are handled by the store that sold it, under its own rules. Where the law gives you a right to withdraw from a purchase of digital content, the store's checkout tells you when that right ends.

When code packs end, nothing you made is lost. Every calculation goes on working with the same code in book form, and every sheet you saved stays yours.

Your account and your sheets

An account is optional. It carries your sheets and your purchases between your devices. The sheets are yours: we store them and hand them back to you, and use them for nothing else. You can delete the account, and everything stored under it, from inside the app at any time. Our privacy notice says what we hold and why.

Fair use

Do not try to reach another person's account or data, to overload or attack the service, or to resell access to it. We may close an account that does, after telling you why where we can.

When something goes wrong

We take care over every number in Fishtape and test it against an independent reference engine, but no software is free of errors. To the extent the law allows, the app is provided as it is, and we are not liable for loss that comes from relying on a result without checking it as described above. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, or takes away your rights as a consumer.

If you got the app from the App Store

These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no duty to maintain or support it, and is not responsible for any claim about it, including a claim that it infringes someone else's rights; those are ours to deal with. If the app fails to conform to a warranty that applies by law, you may tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, and Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Law and changes

These terms are governed by the law of Portugal. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the European Union, you keep the protection of the law where you live, and you may bring a claim there. If these terms change in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and, if you have an account, we tell you by email before the change takes effect.
